If I had to choose one restaurant to recommend for someone's first "serious" dinner in Krakow, Starka Restaurant in Kazimierz would be very high on the list. It's a place where locals come with their parents when they want to "show off Krakow," and tourists leave convinced that Polish cuisine is more than just pierogi and bigos.

Starka Restaurant is located at 14 Józefa Street, in the heart of Kazimierz – the historic Jewish district, today one of the most atmospheric parts of Krakow, full of bars, cafes, and galleries.

From the outside, Starka looks unassuming: red shutters, a "Restaurant & Vodkas" sign, and a few tables along the sidewalk. Inside, the cozy, atmospheric interior features brick, candles, and retro-style artwork, which is especially striking in the evening. It's more of an intimate, bustling "time capsule" than an elegant, white-tablecloth restaurant – perfect for a date, a get-together with friends, or a family dinner.

The menu changes, but the core remains the same: solid Polish cuisine, refined but without any forced frills. Starka Restaurant is famous for, among other things:

The portions are fair, and the cuisine is typical "comfort food": it's supposed to be tasty, home-cooked, and a bit like "an aunt who cooks with passion.".

It's impossible to talk about a place like Starka's restaurant without mentioning their liqueurs. They're their biggest selling point: a wide selection of their own, flavored liqueurs, served in small glasses – perfect for a slow sip.

Flavors rotate, but you'll often find classics like:

This is a great option to show your foreign friends the "stronger" side of Polish tradition... in an elegant, refined form, not in the "just-in-time" version.

From a local guide's perspective, Starka is a bull's eye for:

Starka also has special offers for groups, including set menus for larger reservations and events, which can be useful when organizing team-building dinners or corporate meetings.

From the Main Market Square, you can walk here in about 15–20 minutes – just descend towards Wawel Castle, cross Dietl Street, and enter Kazimierz. Józefa Street is the district's backbone: after dinner, you're close to plenty of bars, wine bars, and atmospheric corners for an evening stroll.

If you are moving around the city by electric scooter, the area around Józefa / Plac Nowy is a great transfer point: it is close to both the Vistula River and back towards the Old Town.

If you are looking for a place where:

Starka Restaurant should be a must-see on your Krakow itinerary. It's a place that's regularly recommended by locals and guides alike—and it's exactly the kind of place we want to showcase to Cityglide guests.

[149
167
153

post-2916","at_biz_dir","type-at_biz_dir","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","atbdp_listing_types-general","at_biz_dir-category-gastronomia-i-lokalne-smaki","at_biz_dir-location-krakow-dzielnica-i-stare-miasto
