When you think "Wawel Dragon," you probably imagine a fire-breathing monster that terrorized ancient Krakow. But what if the story could be told differently? Sculpture "Dragon with a kite", standing by Tourist Service Center (CORT) right on the Vistula River, sheds a whole new light on this legend.

The author of this poetic installation is Bronislaw Chromy - the same artist who created the famous fire-breathing dragon at Wawel Castle. In 2015, just before his death, he donated a second version of the iconic sculpture to the city - light, symbolic and full of childlike imagination.

Here the dragon does not breathe fire, scare or devour sheep. On the contrary, he holds a colorful kite in his mouth, which floats in the air. His posture is friendly, his movement dynamic and his gaze almost joyful. He is a dragon from another world - not from legend, but from a fairy tale.

It is this contrasting narrative that draws tourists and walkers to it. For children, it's a picture-perfect place, for adults - an opportunity to reflect on how art can change context. In giving this project to the city, Chromy wanted to remind us that even myth has a second bottom - that even a dragon can have "children's dreams."

The sculpture blends perfectly with its surroundings: Vistula Boulevards, Wawel Hill, nearby Jock statue - All this creates a true open-air gallery. Walking along the Vistula River, you can not only take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city, but also absorb art and history in the most accessible form.
