Under Wawel Hill there was supposed to be a cave where a terrifying dragon lived, terrorizing the city's residents. The beast demanded sacrifices of cattle and sometimes even people! The king promised the hand of his daughter to the one who would defeat the monster. Many brave warriors tried, but only a clever shoemaker named Dratewka managed to outwit the dragon. He fed it a sheep stuffed with sulfur, and when the dragon swallowed it and drank water from the Vistula, it exploded!
Today, the legend lives on thanks to the impressive sculpture of the Wawel Dragon, located at the foot of Wawel Hill, right at the entrance to the Dragon's Den. Created by Bronislaw Chromy in 1972, the sculpture attracts crowds of tourists - especially children eagerly waiting for the dragon to breathe fire (which it does every few minutes!).
Dragon's Cave is a cave that you can enter, experiencing the atmosphere of ancient times. This attraction is ideal for both children and adults.
